In recent days, the average daily temperature in Luoyang has remained above 3°C, with today’s high reaching a pleasant 14°C. As the weather gradually warms, major shopping malls have launched their spring fashion sales. A reporter visited several stores and found that winter clothing, which is about to be replaced by seasonal items, is being heavily discounted, drawing crowds of shoppers eager to grab deals. Meanwhile, the newly arrived spring collections are met with more curiosity than purchases.
Winter apparel is now on sale, with many stores offering discounts ranging from 20% to 50%, and some even running clearance events. These significant price reductions have sparked strong consumer interest, with many people rushing to “scan the bottom†for the best deals.
Ms. Liu, a resident of Lichun West Road, was seen browsing at the discount section of Dennis Department Store on Nanchang Road this morning. She said, “I had my eye on this outfit before the Spring Festival, but it was never discounted. Now it's on sale at 40% off, so I saved over 500 yuan. It's definitely worth it.â€
According to a store owner on Jinghua Road, “This winter wasn’t very cold, so winter clothes didn’t sell as well as last year. There’s a lot of inventory left, and with spring clothing now hitting the shelves, we’re forced to offer bigger discounts to clear stock.†Although these sales may reduce profit margins, the owner added, it’s still a smart move to recover capital and prepare for the new season.
In contrast, the arrival of spring fashion has been relatively quiet. At stores like Dennis, Thousands, and Wangfujing, spring collections—such as light jackets, shirts, dresses, T-shirts, and knits—are displayed prominently. Some brands are also offering promotions with discounts up to 90%.
However, despite the discounts, consumer interest remains low. A sales associate at a women’s brand counter on the third floor of Thousands Department Store noted, “I’ve hung up dozens of pieces of spring clothing, but not a single one has been sold.†Many customers are waiting for bigger discounts, especially since the new spring clothes are thin and resemble summer wear, making them unsuitable for the current weather.
“A lot of people don’t want to buy them now,†said another customer. “They’re too light for spring and too expensive for the time being. It’s better to wait until there’s a big sale.â€
A well-known clothing dealer in Luoyang explained, “Spring in Luoyang is short, and the sales window is tight. Many spring collections are more suited for summer, using lightweight fabrics like chiffon and satin. The trend is shifting toward skirts and shorts, but the prices are still quite high. Most people are just watching and waiting for the right moment to buy.â€
